The Dems target tobacco - where does that leave liberal smokers?

Obama signs Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act in Washington

You know, liberals’ nanny-state antics often come back to bite them in the ass.

When Obama signed the recent tobacco legislation into law, the liberal tobacco users I know were crying over their sore hineys.  When Gov. Tim Kaine of Virginia signed a ban on smoking tobacco in restaurants and bars, my liberal pals were nursing their tooshies. Continue Reading »

By Joe L-E, June 23, 2009 under Culture | 4 Comments

tv reality show

My article: In defense of the ‘Housewives’ is featured on The Star Ledger’s online site NJVoices this afternoon.  I take on the critics for what they said about the stereotypes of my home state on the Bravo show “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.”

For those of you coming over from NJ.com… WELCOME!  This site is just starting to get underway, so I encourage you to bookmark this now (crtl + d) and keep coming back for more news on current events (NJ and national), politics, finance, and culture from regular, young people who know how to appeal to everyone using new media… and happen to be right a lot of the time.  (See Bando Bucks’ first two columns here and here).

Scots Cardinal Makes Stand On Abortion

Apparently the Roman Catholic Church in Spain takes abortion a little more seriously than its American counterpart. “Bishop Juan Antonio Martínez Camino said: ‘Strict church doctrine says no true Catholic believer can agree with or support this move [to liberalize Spain’s abortion laws].’

Bishop Camino said those who participated in abortion would be immediately excommunicated.”

?!

In America, we have American priests actively campaigning for abortionists. Continue Reading »

Asparagus Season In Germany BeginsMy alma mater, the College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, VA, has been going through an identity crisis over the last few years. Rather than actually spending time and money on developing the athletics program in order to bring in some revenue, the College has had to focus on a mascot issue. Evidently, the answer comes in the form of a vegetableContinue Reading »

Obama vs. PETA

By Joe L-E, June 18, 2009 under News | No Comments

House-Flies Bred For Medicinal Purposes

I never thought there could actually be an update to the Obama versus the fly story, but this is just ridiculous.

There is really absolutely nothing to say about this story besides the fact that the people at PETA are sick in the head.

[PETA wishes Obama hadn't swatted that fly - Townhall.com]

Obamas, salt of the Earth, getting nothing done

First Lady Michelle Obama Holds Food And Nutrition Event In WH Garden

The Obamas were incredibly unimpressive today, but what else is new.

Drudge led off the day with a funny headline noting that Michelle’s White House garden seems to be on steroids, considering that it has already bloomed.  What’s more offensive than that is the horrendously long speech she gives to go along with it.

Despite the impressive showing, Michelle’s act of being one with nature would be outdone by Barack. Continue Reading »

Just in case you thought Old Media wasn’t dead yet

Unrest Continues After Iranian Presidential ElectionsIt took several hours before the lovable losers in the mainstream media even realized that people in Iran might actually be a tad upset about the “election” last week. This came about because of a combination of a few things:

  1. The media was smart enough to realize right off the bat that Obama wasn’t picking up on the story, so they had no reason to play it up.
  2. The media also recognized how terrible it would look for the Obama Doctrine to show that even Iranians don’t see Ahmadinejad as a legitimate leader while Obama courts him as aggressively as better than he does with our actual allies like Germany and the UK.
  3. Continue Reading »

Lazy hiatus

When you live in New Jersey and the shore is so close and your friends have houses there, you can’t really avoid a few good weekends over the summer. But after being surrounded by guidos for a weekend, I’m glad to be back. (Some people are really offended by the stereotype, evidently). Time to step up the summer and get more done on this site.

Part of the things that you will see is MORE WRITERS!  We’ll be adding insider financial analysis from a friend of mine, who will be (probably) known as Bando Bucks.  He’s got some great insights and even a few good conspiracy theories up his sleeve, which is some every blog needs. (Don’t worry, mine are coming too).

More updates to come.

Welcome to Average Joe L-E!

By Joe L-E, June 11, 2009 under About | No Comments

Average Joe L-E started in Spring 2009 as an outlet for young conservatives who are recent college graduates and are not part of the establishment “Republicans” or Capitol Hill staffers. We are conservatives that otherwise do not have a home.  Ultimately, we are some pretty bright “Average Joes” who have opted to stay out of the political world, but still have plenty to contribute to it.

The issues discussed here will be a wide array, including both national and local politics, based on the locations of our writers.  But within this broad range is also a focus on the “Millenials” and how these issues affect us.  It is a perspective that is almost always forgotten, by both sides of the aisle.  When it is mentioned, there usually someone else saying what they think we should think.  That is not enough.

Recent college graduates from ages 22-30 are a critical demographic that only get mentions when we get sympathy for current job market woes.  There is so much more we care about and can share.  Many people, no matter what era they are from, will be encouraged by the conservative spirit of the writers here, giving an edge to the news and a bite to the commentary. You will find all this and more at Average Joe L-E.

Joe Luppino-Esposito (Joe L-E) is the website’s founder and editor. Joe is a 2008 graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and is currently a second year student at Seton Hall Law School in Newark, New Jersey.

Monty Pythons Spamalot News Conference At Wynn Las Vegas

It’s official– My website must have enough links out there that someone noticed it to leave some spam comments.  Awesome, right?

So that means that some REAL people who read this need to start commenting.  It’s set up to almost look like a Facebook wall board.  I promise I’ll write back.

I know only a handful of people even have the address so far (still developing som ideas before I go full-blown) but I would relaly like so have something to show for on the site when people do get to see it.
