The Amish are watching you

EUROPE-SURVEILLANCE

I came across this interesting article in the Philadelphia Inquirer today.

The article states the city of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, home of 55,000 people in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch country, has installed 165 surveillance cameras around town to watch its citizens in case they commit any crimes. Continue Reading »

Why Palin is Stepping Down from the Alaskan Governorship

By JFK, July 5, 2009 under News | 15 Comments

Natl Governors Assn Leaders Brief Press After Meeting With Obama

Far be it from me to answer the question that all of the eggheads in D.C. have been pondering for the past week.

But it seems relatively obvious why Palin is stepping down from the Alaskan governorship mid-term: she needs to attend finishing school.

She’s not your average politician.  She sounds mixed up sometimes. Continue Reading »

An attempt at a non-cliched Independence Day comment

By Joe L-E, July 5, 2009 under Culture, News | No Comments

Goodwood Festival of Speed - Day Two

Every July 4, people from both sides of the aisle made some outrageous, ginormous statements regarding Independence Day and what it means to them, their families, America, etc.  Those on the Left use it to say it is a day to promote the great freedoms we have today, and then devolves into a discussion on their “civil right” du jour or a rant about how the Declaration wasn’t so hot after all.  Conservatives use it to chide America for going too far away from what the founders intended or reminding us of their sacrifice.

Obviously, today is a big deal. But ultimately, it’s a big birthday party, and you know how those can wind up.  It all depends on how old you are to determine what the appropriate celebration should be. Continue Reading »

“Because hunny, you can always win by just calling your opponent’s argument an attack!”

By KC Luciano, July 4, 2009 under Culture | No Comments

DunceThe extent to which the left holds itself up as the model of intellectualism is never ceasing source of amusement. Aside from the fact that good scholarship should be able to stand on its own and survive scrutiny, this self-regard often results in the acceptance of poor logic, and outright falsehoods, in favor of ideological adherence and group think. Write off 2012?

John McCain Holds Campaign Rally In OFallon, Missouri

When Mark Sanford was caught going to Argentina to visit his mistress, the media widely reported the downfall of a potential 2012 Republican presidential candidate. That got me thinking–why bother focusing so much on the 2012 presidential election since the Republicans are almost certain to lose?

Despite Congress’s best efforts to derail the Democratic Party, the media is still in infatuated with Obama. It’s pretty much going to take the President being caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy for this to change. Continue Reading »

Happy Canada Day! Let them keep universal healthcare for themselves

By Joe L-E, July 1, 2009 under News | No Comments

2009 NHL Draft Portraits

In honor of Canada Day, I propose that we let the Canadians keep their beloved health system to themselves, because that’s something America can do without.

Socialized medicine, known by the popular euphemism “universal healthcare,” is the new Obama plan/flavor of the week. Unfortunately, this gimmick is the worst one yet. Continue Reading »

Possibly the stupidest bumper sticker that I’ve ever seen

By The Incredible Hoelker, June 30, 2009 under Culture, News | 3 Comments

Driving home from the gym today, I was behind a car that had a bumper sticker that read “No More World Drama, Vote Obama”.

I know it’s meant to be hyperbole and I understand that Obama has higher approval ratings in foreign countries than George W. Bush did or John McCain probably would have had, but has Obama saved us from world drama? I don’t think folks in Iran, North Korea, Iraq or Honduras would agree (and that’s just in the past month).

Until Obama finds a way to bring democracy to Iran (and dismantling their nuclear weapons program), stop North Korea from developing nuclear arms, quell violence in Iraq and allow Honduras to have a government that is not authoritarian, then I’ll believe that Obama can actually stop world drama.

Curious timing

House Holds Hearing On IPCC Climate Change FindingsSo what happened in the past week? Michael Jackson and a host of other celebrities died, the controversy over the Iranian elections continued, Mark Sanford got caught sneaking out to Argentina to visit his mistress, the USA nearly won a soccer tournament and oh yeah, a massive climate-change bill passed through the House of Representatives. This is not a coup in Honduras

By JFK, June 29, 2009 under News | 4 Comments

Russian President Medvedev meets with Venezuelan President Chavez in Orenburg

The alleged coup in Honduras is actually a defense of democracy and of the Right.

President Obama has come out against both, puzzling freedom-loving Americans.  Does Obama oppose term limits on presidents?  That is the issue in Honduras - the ousted president intended to extend his term, Chavez-style.

While Obama was “giving some rub” to Hugo Chavez at the Summit of the Americas in Trinidad, perhaps a bit of that desire for term limit abolishment rubbed off on him.

One has to wonder why an American president would oppose the democratic interests of a majority of the people of Honduras.  Perhaps Obama wants to abolish term limits here as well…

In (partial) defense of Sanford

By Tim Ryder, June 24, 2009 under Culture, News | 1 Comment

Natl Governors Assn Leaders Brief Press After Meeting With Obama

It didn’t take long for someone to call South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) a hypocrite, and it’s no surprise that someone at DailyKos is leading the charge.

I remember reading an interesting piece in the Wall Street Journal’s opinion page a couple years back when David Vitter (R-LA) was caught on the phone list of the infamous DC Madam.  Vitter, naturally, was skewered in the media and called a hypocrite.  The same is now happening to Sanford, but only one is rightly deserved.
