Virginia’s gubernatorial race turns desperate

By KC Luciano, August 10, 2009 under News | 1 Comment

Obama holds campaign rally with Governor candidate Creigh Deeds in VirginiaAt one point in time, it seemed like every Democrat politician with a Southern bent was pro-life. Of course, Teddy Kennedy, Al Gore and Jesse Jackson at some point were also opposed to abortion, proving that political expediency on the issue is a national phenomenon. These days, though, it’s more difficult to come across politicians above Virginia (err, well, Northern Virginia at least…) who willingly take on this label early on in their careers. But below Northern Virginia, or as some call “real Virginia,” political expediency still dictates that politicians seem favorable toward the pro-life position at various points in their careers. For the latest representation, look no further than Bath County state senator and Democratic nominee for Governor of Virginia, Creigh Deeds.

What is your major malfunction, Bobby Gibbs?

By Joe L-E, August 7, 2009 under News | 1 Comment

Obamas, Bidens Host White House Luau For Members Of Congress

Not to be vulgar, but someone needs to play back Full Metal Jacket for White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and ask him: “What is your major malfunction, numbnuts?”

Gibbs, never ceasing to amaze by failing to act professional, has certainly redefined the position as one that requires total ignorance and no shame. Continue Reading »

Obama birth certificate controversy: How blind faith becomes a virtue

By Joe L-E, August 5, 2009 under News | 4 Comments

President Obama gives a basketball to Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan in the Oval Office

When did blind faith become a virtue?

I have asked this before, and the answer is never easy.  But to try to simplify it: When the Left has decided something is a fact, it becomes one.  Or, in the words of Vladamir Lenin, “A lie told often enough becomes the truth.”

Such is the case with the Obama birth certificate controversy.  It is, in fact, a controversy that should never have existed. Continue Reading »

Obama, Biden talk with Prof. Gates, Sgt. Crowley over beers at White House

Is race a detail that is too sensitive to be in a police report?

Now that the much anticipated “Beer Summit” is over, Professor Henry Louis Gates, Sgt. James Crowley, and Barack Obama now say that they can move on past the arrest incident and subsequent controversy surrounding the event. Continue Reading »

NJ history of corruption stands alone

New Jsersey Corruption

After a bit of time away from the site, I figured it would only be appropriate to comment on my home state of New Jersey and what went down only a stone’s throw away from my law school in Newark.

Last Thursday, the FBI nabbed 44 people in a massive corruption-money laundering-organ trafficking scandal. Yes, that’s what I said.

And when I went to William and Mary, they told me about the concept of “good ole’ boys” as if I was going to be surprised by it.   I had no reason to suspect otherwise; In My Cousin Vinny, Billy Gambini reminds us of “Old South” values:  “We think they’re trying to set us up as patsies, Ma. You know how corrupt it is down here. They all know each other.”

But as if by providence, my return to New Jersey could not have come at a better time to remind me that southern state public officials could learn a thing or two about being corrupt from our state leaders. Continue Reading »

Where the Right went wrong

By Joe L-E, July 28, 2009 under Culture | 1 Comment

Kevin DeAnna has a great piece on the “Alternative Right” on Taki’s Magazine that is in sync with what a lot of people on AverageJoeLE.com think about the conservative “movement.”  It’s also great because he links to New Guard, a project Kevin and I worked on last summer that you should all check out. We’re hoping to have Kevin on board with some articles here from time to time as well.

This is going to have to suffice for an “About” page until I get updates and edits together.  Again, my apologies for how slow it has been– law school finals take a lot out of you.

Recession over? Don’t look at the stock market for the answer

By Bando Bucks, July 21, 2009 under Finance | 1 Comment

If you happen to watch this stock market and pay attention to earnings you might be inclined to declare the recession over.  Even though Italy just declared theirs officially over, I wouldn’t be looking at the six day rocket ship under the ass of the stock market to say things are totally back on track.  Continue Reading »

Giving Obama the benefit of the doubt on health care

By Joe L-E, July 21, 2009 under News | No Comments

President Obama speaks on healthcare at the Childrens National Medical Center in WashingtonMaybe we are all giving Obama too much of a hard time about the upcoming health care bill(or BarryCare, ObamaCare, or OCare or O-Who-Cares).   It turns out that he might not know enough about it!

As Heritage first broke, Obama seems to have missed a major provision in the bill, and one that has been perhaps the most criticized by those on both sides of the aisle. The “option” part of “public option” is looking more and more like a “choice” like in “pro-choice” in that it could be deadly.  Continue Reading »

The American Conservative Union: Fake Conservatives

By JFK, July 19, 2009 under News | 4 Comments

Prominient Conservatives Criticize Patriot Act

I happen to have a personal understanding of the work that the American Conservative Union does.  I worked there over one summer as an intern, answering the phone and filing donor information.

On Friday, it was revealed by Politico on Friday that the American Conservative Union recently offered their services to Fedex in return for $2 million.  Fedex turned the ACU down and subsequently, the ACU was a signatory on a letter disparaging Fedex’s efforts to oppose UPS’s position on union legislation.
