The Dems target tobacco - where does that leave liberal smokers?

Obama signs Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act in Washington

You know, liberals’ nanny-state antics often come back to bite them in the ass.

When Obama signed the recent tobacco legislation into law, the liberal tobacco users I know were crying over their sore hineys.  When Gov. Tim Kaine of Virginia signed a ban on smoking tobacco in restaurants and bars, my liberal pals were nursing their tooshies.

But, these same liberals voted for both of these nitwits.  Liberal tobacco users vote for people who tell them that they cannot do a particular activity, in a particular place, in the way that they wish to.  Why?

The liberals respond by saying, “I didn’t vote for Obama to ban certain kinds of tobacco.  It’s just a side issue I wasn’t expecting.  I voted for Obama/Kaine to insert social welfare issue here.”

Obama and Kaine’s view of tobacco is integral to their entire political perspective.  Liberals vote for people to tell them how they can spend their money.  Why not vote for people to tell them how to live their lives?

Obama once said, “Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it.” Notwithstanding the fallacious notion of “change-as-progress,” what is clear is that Obama believes it is your responsiblity to change your country, from whatever it is to whatever it ought to be.  But how do you accomplish that without a powerful government?  Answer: you don’t.  Tobacco bans are but one symptom of a powerful government in action.

When the righteous man makes a poor decision, he accepts blame, assesses the damages, and works hard to make things right.  He holds himself accountable, and he is his hardest judge.

When the leftist makes a poor decision (i.e. becoming addicted to cigarettes), he tells himself that it’s not his fault (he was too young to understand) that he became addicted and that the government should do something about it - his obligations are gone.  Responsibility is lifted from the individual and bestowed upon the government.  And the government makes decisions for the individual that the individual should have made for himself.  The Bill of Rights is a neat fadeaway jumper into the trash can for Obama.

What decision should the individual have made?  Whatever decision I say he should have made.  You can see where this slippery slope enables know-it-alls to run your life.

So as I puff on my black cavendish Virginia tobacco, I sit and wonder how long I will retain the right to enjoy the sweet taste of flavored carbon.  I do enjoy Diet Coke, but I know it contains chemicals that some consider deadly.  And I love a good beer, but alcohol is prominent killer.

I’m just going to keep on doing all of those things.  And the government won’t get my Diet Coke until the aspartame has fully incapacitated me into ADHD delusion.  It brings new meaning to Charlton Heston’s (PBUH) famous challenge as he held a rifle in the air: “from my cold, dead hands!”

Liberal smokers are forced to be healthier and less disgusting too.
