Recap of Obama’s week-it wasn’t good
A somewhat slanted recap of highlights from President Barack Obama’s week:
Bad week at home
- While Obama traveled across the world this week, his poll numbers did nothing but travel down stateside. Most notably, his approval among independents edged downward close to 50% among independents.
Bad week abraod
- For all the fanfare and speeches, Obama got nothing out of the Russians on the major foreign policy fronts of North Korea, Iran or Georgia. He also continued to undercut our allies with vacillations on a missile defense system in Poland and a radar detection system in the Czech Republic.
- Promises on emissions reductions made at the G8 Summit are nothing but hot air. Pledges to reduce carbon dioxide emissions among the G8 countries are nonbinding while negotiations with developing nations (i.e. China and Russia) fell through.
Tea parties, take two?
- Rumblings of an unpopular second stimulus were made this week. Can the president be serious about following this foolish route again?
Growing problems on health care
- The White House’s push to have health care legislation passed out of Congress soon looks increasingly elusive.
Onto Ghana…
- Obama left the Vatican for Ghana Friday night. While on a one-day visit to Sub-Sahara Africa, he will address the Ghana’s parliament. The press has been heralding Obama’s return visit to Africa for some time, but his comeback is unlikely to be as friendly as the president is used to.
