My article: In defense of the ‘Housewives’ is featured on The Star Ledger’s online site NJVoices this afternoon.  I take on the critics for what they said about the stereotypes of my home state on the Bravo show “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.”

For those of you coming over from NJ.com… WELCOME!  This site is just starting to get underway, so I encourage you to bookmark this now (crtl + d) and keep coming back for more news on current events (NJ and national), politics, finance, and culture from regular, young people who know how to appeal to everyone using new media… and happen to be right a lot of the time.  (See Bando Bucks’ first two columns here and here).

Thank you for writing this wonderful article. I have watched the “Real Housewives of NJ” for a number of reasons — many you just cited. I hope the cast receives a copy of your piece.

This was the first “Real Housewives” series that actually had real housewives on it. They loved their children and cherished their families — we should all be so lucky to have a mother/wife/sister/friend such as they.

I was born in NJ, grew up in NJ, and delivered one of my children there. I have lived in Europe and some of the largest cities in the US, but New Jersey remains one of the most special places of all to me. God bless the Real Housewives of NJ, their families — and you, sir. Viva New Jersey!

I enjoyed the NJ housewives more than the NY housewives because they all actually were housewives. And I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with my hometown in the “Real Housewives of DC”!

Joe, I thought the Star-Ledger article was good- until you inserted the random paragraph about abortion. Seriously, I thought you’d learned in the last 4 years how to stay on topic in your writing.

Haha… I actually intended to make it more political at first, so I guess that was still in there.

Honestly though: I think articles on “cultural” things such as entertainment should contain commentary on politics, because it’s often there, and its important to pull it out of the subliminal.
